CREATION OF A CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTORS ASSOCIATION

WHEREAS, major construction projects are being undertaken in the Northern Ohio Region; and
WHEREAS, these construction projects should have provisions within the contracts for a certain goal of minority contractor participation in the project; and
WHEREAS, historically, Hispanic contracting firms have not been adequately represented in those minority contracts; and
WHEREAS, some Hispanic contractors are not at the level to participate due to lack of experience, financial capacity, and certification; and
WHEREAS, the Northwest Ohio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has organized a Hispanic Contractors Association.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that a construction contractors association be organized within the Hispanic Business Association and in partnership with the Northwest Ohio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, that will advocate for the inclusion of more Hispanic contractors in major construction projects and will assist those Hispanic contractors that are unable to participate obtain the level of competence, financial capacity and certification to engage in such contracts.



TO STRENGTHEN RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN HISPANIC AND HISPANIC-SERVING WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AGENCIES AND HISPANIC-OWNED COMPANIES TO ENSURE STABLE AND CULTURALLY COMPETENT SOURCES OF EMPLOYMENT FOR QUALIFIED HISPANICS IN NORTHERN OHIO

WHEREAS, Hispanic and Hispanic-serving workforce development agencies provide training and qualification services for Hispanic candidates; and
WHEREAS, Hispanic-owned businesses are demonstrating steady growth in regional economic development and represent a naturally culturally competent environment for these candidates.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Hispanic and Hispanic-serving workforce development agencies of Northern Ohio and Hispanic-owned businesses form a partnership to increase employment rates for the Hispanic population and ensure sources of employment for qualified individuals.



TO CREATE AN INITIATIVE TO ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF HISPANICS WITH PHYSICAL, MENTAL OR BEHAVIORAL CHALLENGES, TO ENABLE THEIR ACCESS, ENTRANCE AND RETENTION TO AND IN WORKFORCE IN NORTHERN OHIO

WHEREAS, the Hispanic community is not an exception to the share of participation in the rates of disabled individuals in Northern Ohio; and
WHEREAS, access to certain services has been a challenge for the Hispanic community due to lack of information, or language proficiency, let alone adding physical, mental or behavioral disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Northern Ohio has workforce development and social service agencies dedicated to serving the Hispanic community, but none that addresses the specific need of disabled Hispanics intending to join the local workforce, and retaining their jobs.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Hispanic and Hispanic-serving social service and workforce development agencies of Northern Ohio create the initiative and procure sustainability thereof to facilitate access of members of the Hispanic community who suffer physical, mental or behavioral disabilities to local jobs.

REGIONAL COALITION

WHEREAS, the Hispanic businesses in the Northern Ohio Region are underrepresented in terms of their participation in the Region’s main stream commerce; and
WHEREAS, Convencion Hispana 2007, the Hispanic Business Association, and the Northwest Ohio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce recognize the need to bring together Hispanic businesses in the region in order to provide opportunities for the overall enhancement of their economic development; and
WHEREAS, foundations, corporations and local governments in Northern Ohio are developing an overall strategy for the economic development of the region.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that a coalition of Hispanic businesses in Northern Ohio be formed through the Hispanic Business Association and in partnership with the Northwest Ohio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, to develop and implement a strategy for the economic development of Hispanic businesses that is consistent with and enhances the overall economic development plan of the region.
